Australian Merino Exports Pty Ltd is an established wool exporting company providing personalised service to wool textile clients worldwide.
Along with traditional greasy wool exporting, the company is also a reputable supplier of wool top, scoured wool and carbonised types.
After many years working for a large corporate wool trading house, Directors James Thomson and Chris Kelly saw an opportunity to utilise their combined experience to establish a personalised wool exporting company that would uniquely provide a flexible and “hands on” approach to meet the requirements of their customer.

Australian Merino Exports (AME) remains one of the top 5 exporters by volume and exports to a diverse range of customers all over the world, meeting the needs of clients in China, Italy, Japan, India, the United States of America and throughout continental Europe.
Upholding the traditional methods of wool valuation, our technically skilled team combines their vast experience allowing customers access to consistent deliveries which can be competitively priced using appraising techniques that go beyond objective measurements.
Australian Merino Exports, delivers over 100,000 bales or 15 million clean kilograms annually, meticulously selecting wools to ensure deliveries meet the clients exacting standards.

James has been exposed to the wool industry from a very young age with both grandparents running wool growing farms. As a teenager, James learnt to shear the sheep and spent his school holidays traveling away from home to work in the shearing sheds. Once finishing school and completing his Wool and Fibre Marketing qualification, James began his career handling wool in the private buying system, before moving into wool export, where he spent many years working initially for a Korean company and then for a large Japanese trading house.
The culmination of James’s vast knowledge, passion and experience in the industry, lead him to establish Australian Merino Exports. Seeing an opportunity to service the market with a personal hands on approach, Australian Merino Exports was developed with partner Chris Kelly, ensuring clients of the company receive quality deliveries, matching their requirements at a competitive price – balancing quality for outcome against cost. No other supplier can match the expert wool fibre knowledge with the trading acumen of Australian Merino Exports.
Chris Kelly, Director
Coming from a Victorian Western District farming family, Chris was privileged to be raised on a wool growing farm, which has been producing fine wool clips for generations. Leaving the farm as a young man, Chris completed his qualifications in Wool and Fibre Marketing before embarking on a long career in wool export. He quickly moved into a management position within Itochu Australia and over the years has held several positions of authority within th e industry including:
